The book “The Big Moo“, by not only Seth Godin, but 33 other successful business people, including Mark Cuban, Dave Balter, Malcolm Gladwell, Tom Peters, and Guy Kawasaki, is a compilation of shorts that tell how people have made their little businesses, remarkable.

Godin’s previous book, “Purple Cow“, talks about being a standout Purple Cow in a crowded field of brown cows. Sometimes you need a Big Moo, to go beyond and become remarkable. Easily remarked about, in other words.

So extraordinary people want to remark about it.

Purple Cow talks about standing out in a field of Brown Cows, but The Big Moo talks about how to get people to remark on your business. Essential to becoming viral in a sea of ordinary and sometimes flooded landscape.

Godin talks about how the product is what people think it is or what they want it to be, case in point the Italian Shop keeper who came to America, to sell his wares. The customers would look at the six pack of drinking glasses and put them back, then walk over to the single bud vases, also look and put them back and not buy.

One day he watched one of his customers and asked them how they liked the store, and they remarked ” I don’t understand why you are selling your bud vases in six packs, when I would only use maybe 2 or 3 of them,” and ” I would really like to buy some of those drinking glasses, but I would rather buy them in a six pack instead of individually.”

The Bud Vases here in America, were actually drinking glasses in Italy, and the Bud vases in Italy, were translated as drinking glasses in Americas big thirst for more and bigger. The product is what the customer wants it to be.

The Big Moo, is a great fast read, or listen if you download the audio version, and I highly recommend it, if you are an Internet entrepreneur. It will open your eyes to looking at things and thinking about things, in a different light.

Bob wears pantyhose.

Bob worked for Legg’s and so did several other men and they too wore pantyhose. They just couldn’t grasp how an improved cotton panel would be beneficial, because of their Male Appendage. One of the Legg’s company marketers, however, was in touch with his family and friends, the females in his life who did wear pantyhose and talked to them about what they wanted, needed and how to improve the Legg’s line. The company marketer always made a better impression than the guys who wore pantyhose.

Why? Because he talked to the customers and not just the person in the mirror. Therefore he was remarkable and so was the Legg’s line of Pantyhose.

If you want a fast read and an eye opener, then I highly suggest getting The Big Moo by the group of 33, and Seth Godin.

I finished the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill a few weeks ago, rather the audio version of it, and almost immediately thought of The Secret. Although I have never read The Secret, or watched a movie about it, I did see an info movie about it, a while back, and thought to myself that this is probably where The Secret started from or got it’s inspiration.

From what I understand, I am correct in that assumption, in doing some research on that before writing this review, Think and Grow Rich is said to be the inspiring topic for The Secret. Personally I was not impressed with what I’ve heard about The Secret, and the way it was presented and  the way I saw it was more get rich quick crap, than fact.

However, in the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, I was Awe Inspired, I was delighted with stories of people who were little people who went on to be great people  and in the process because rich as an aside. The author did not disclose “The Secret” in exact words, but gave it in such a way that a person would have to derive it for themselves from the passages in the book.

I found many of the principles in the book ones that I already adhere too, such as having a burning desire for the want of something, or of something better. Faith is also a key part in the procedure of attaining ones goal as is autosuggestion. Not so much as hockey autosuggestion, but in the sense of writing little notes of what you desire and placing them in places you will see everyday. Way’s to reinforce your belief that you will someday attain that which you desire.

Organization, specialized knowledge, imagination and persistence, along with a few other topics were covers, and all with a great deal of explanation were covered in the way to get that which you desire. I was thoroughly surprised by this book which was written some years ago, and still works today for many of us who read and use the principles inside.

Would I suggest Think and Grow Rich to anyone? Yes I would, but not for the simple fact of wanting to become rich or well off, but for the principles and characteristics it instills in people, or helps to bring out in others. I would highly recommend Think and Grow Rich to ANY who wants to be successful in their endeavors.

After reading the 4 Hour Work Week I decided to check into the other books he put in the “Restricted Reading” section. The restricted reading is going on a low information diet to help quiet the head and make life a little more sane. I have indulged in some of his advices such as limiting checking my email to 2 times a day and have found that it gives me more time, less stress and I am more relaxed throughout the day now too. Not constantly thinking about email and hitting the pelletized cocaine retrieval button 80 times a day, I have more time to do more important things with my time. Like spending more time with my daughter walking around the neighborhood, or working on other Niche Sites I am developing like RockabillyLifestyle.Com, which I probably have to much crap on right now, which is in itself another story.

The Magic of thinking big by David Schwartz, is the book I decided to start reading, and goes into some theory that I have always thought to be true before I read the book, and that is you can change a persons day, attitude or demeanor, with an expression of kindness, or treating them as “Important”, and not just another person to step on.

It’s not just about someone else though, it’s all about You. Your actions, the way you think, the way you treat other people and how you react to others and certain situations. It’s geared to help you become bigger than what you are now, a better person, and help you to succeed in what you do in all aspects of your life not just your jobs or financial goals. True it is about learning to be successful and succeeding, but it’s got a bigger broader picture. It goes through a whole range of thinking practices and misinformation’s.

Whenever I am about to talk to someone I now pause and mentally think about what I am going to say to them. I try to stay on the positive side of things and this is one huge thing I was happy he covered. When you have to approach someone about the job they are doing, and it may not be so good, it gives examples how to approach it and keep it positive while also addressing the situation at hand.

Success is not so much about how big you are or how big your company is, it’s about how big your thinking is, and how it makes others feel. It focuses on and retrains your mind to get out of the mind trappings of daily life and think big, bigger than you used to.

The book, first published in 1965, is still a classic and currently read by many people and has practical advice and guides for today’s world. Those reading this currently are big time CEO’s, life coaches, and many other successful professionals. If you get the audio book, just be prepared as the author is part of the narrative and sounds a little dated, but it’s still an excellent listen. I highly recommend The Magic of thinking big by David Schwartz.
